Clarification: An incorrect allegation about KPC chairman John Ngumi

In Summary

An incorrect allegation about KPC chairman John Ngumi

In Siasa on March 9, Godfrey Sang wrote a column‘Why the Rift Valley remains uneasy with the handshake’. It stated that Kenya Pipeline chairman John Ngumi is “wanted in Tanzania for a bribery case.” This is factually incorrect. In April 2017 Tanzania requested Kenya to extradite former Stanbic Tanzania boss Bashir Awale following a 2015 ruling by the Serious Fraud Office in London about a bribery case. The name of Ngumi, a former Stanbic manager, did not appear in the SFO report and Tanzania has not requested his extradition. We regret this inaccurate assertion by Sang and welcome this opportunity to set the record straight.
