A suspected gangster was on Thursday evening killed by police in Kayole, Nairobi, and a pistol with one round of ammunition recovered.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said in a tweet that the gangster and an accomplice, who managed to escape, were robbing members of the public.
Acting on a tip off, officers approached the armed gangsters and ordered them to surrender but they disobeyed.
"They challenged them to stop and surrender but instead they fired at the officers. Detectives returned fire and fatally injured 1 gangster. A pistol & 1 round recovered," the DCI said.
The officers said they are pursuing the escaped gangster to ensure he faces the full force of the law.
