Police on Wednesday rescued a five year old boy who was reportedly kidnapped a month ago.

The child was found in a house within Thika town. Police shot dead the alleged kidnapper.

The shooting occurred after the suspect disobeyed an order to surrender.

The DCI said he tried to put up a fight using crude weapons.

He was fatally shot as he charged at one of the officers with a sharp machete, cutting the burrell of his gun in the process.

"He lunged to injure one of the rescue police officers, forcing the officers to respond fatally injuring him," DCI tweeted.

Two IDs belonging to two different people were found.
