Transport was paralysed along the busy Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway after River Ramisi burst its banks on Friday.
The situation saw motorists stranded on either side of Mwande bridge on the key highway that connects Kenya to Tanzania through Lunga Lunga.
The bridge was overtopped by floodwaters following heavy rains that have been pounding the area.
Area deputy County Commissioner Josphat Biwott urged motorists to approach the area with caution.
He warned drivers and commuters against making an attempt to cross the flooded river.
For its part, KeNHA advised motorists and road users plying the route to be cautious.
Communication assistant director Charles Njogu said in a statement that the
agency has deployed a team of engineers to monitor the situation.
