Kenyan comedians could be among the lucky winners who will get to showcase their work on Cartoon Network.

The network has invited all African creators to submit a short-form animated comedy for their consideration.

In a statement, CN said the comic pieces should be random, cheeky, smart and have contemporary humour.

Entries for the Cartoon Network Africa Creative Lab, a new initiative, are open from June 7 to August 31.

"Interested candidates must be aged 18 and over and can submit their 1 to 3-minute creative short project which must be in the genre of comedy."

Ten projects will be shortlisted in September after which the local creators will have a chance to pitch their work to Cartoon Network Africa’s content programming team.

The winner and runners up will be revealed at DISCOP, Johannesburg at the end of the year.

A pilot episode will later be produced premiering on Cartoon Network Africa and its digital platforms in 2019.

The new initiative is set to encourage Kenyan talents, creators, writers, graphic artists and animation students.

Cartoon Network reassured that they are committed to mentoring Kenyan talent and across the African continent in the animation industry.

Focus on local content has in the recent years proved to be a growth avenue for production companies in Kenya.

The need for local content has grown over the years with many young creatives in Kenya emerging.

MultiChoice Africa also called on all aspiring young film and TV creatives to apply for the newly launched initiative MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF).

MTF will provide practical skills over a 12 month program, aimed at furnishing 60 young talented creatives from across the continent.
