Six Kericho MCAs yesterday appeared in court where they face charges of malicious damage to property after they disrupted assembly proceedings last week.
Justice Mumbi Ngugi ordered Eric Bii, Paul Chirchir, Albert Kipkoech, Hezron Ngetich, Philip Rono and Cheruiyot Bett not to interfere with the conduct of the county assembly until their case is heard.
The case will be heard on March 1. The MCAs were accused of destroying the mace and window panes during the chaotic debate on supplementary budget estimates.
Voter Cheruiyot Soi, through lawyer Onesmus Langat sought an interpretation of the MCA's conduct in court. The MCAs were among 17 others who opposed the approval of the budget. They allegedly engaged in fist-fights, leading to the destruction of the mace. They were represented by lawyer Charles Kiplangat.
