A teacher was killed in a brawl at a bar in Gilgil over the just concluded repeat presidential election.

The man was hit on the

head with a blunt object and died on the way to hospital.

Business came to a standstill as the bleeding victim was taken for medical attention.

The attacker, a trader in the area, was arrested following the incident

on Wednesday night at a

popular bar at Kikopey trading centre.

Witness Jane Muthoni said the two had been drinking when an

argument arose on the legality of the election.

Muthoni said the argument

degenerated into name-calling before the suspect grabbed a piece of wood and hit the teacher.

"The trader attacked the teacher from behind. He collapsed before other patrons went to his rescue," she said.

An officer said the body was taken to a local mortuary and investigations launched.
