A woman has sued world 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto for child neglect.

The woman says she is a 20-year-old orphan

from Mosoriot in Nandi county.

Kipruto's home is within Mosoriot area.

She went to a children's court in Eldoret on Tuesday seeking Sh50,000 every month for upkeep.

The complainant claims she cohabited with Kipruto between 2015 and 2016, that they had a boy

but differed later and that

he has cut all communication with her.

The athlete has been summoned to court on September 25 for the hearing.

The woman sought support from the Center for Human Rights and Democracy (CHRD) in Eldoret to file the case.

“She came to us for assistance and we will provide the lawyer to prosecute the case for her”, said CEO Ken Wafula.

The case was first filed in February but a date for the hearing had not been set.

“We cohabited as husband and wife from May 2015 and were blessed with one child," the woman says in her affidavit.

"Our relationship and perceived marriage has gone sour to the extent that the defendant doesn’t contact us, and doesn’t provide for the minor, leaving me to struggle alone for the welfare of the minor."

The complainant further says she is unemployed and that the athlete had been planning to marry another woman, putting the boy's future in jeopardy.

“He is a successful athlete of international repute with means and resources to meet the basic requirements of the minor while in my custody."

The woman adds Kiputo’s attitude shows he will not support the child unless ordered by the court.

She notes Kipruto is under obligation to undertake his parental responsibilities the child.

The woman wants the man compelled to pay

Sh15,000 for food, Sh15,000 for rent, Sh12,000 for clothing, Sh3,000 for electricity and water and Sh5,000 for a house help and medical expenses.

Kipruto did neither answered calls not replied messages from The Star for comment on the matter.
