Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo claims nominated legislator Oburu Oginga has admitted to being behind the shambolic ODM primaries.
Midiwo said Oburu’s public acknowledgement that he was behind rigging that led to him (Midiwo) getting the ODM certificate in 2013 clearly demonstrates Oburu was responsible for the rigged nominations.
Oburu is the elder brother of NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
The legislator has several times blamed Oburu for the major falling out among ODM members that led to former secretary general Ababu Namwamba and Funyula MP Paul Otuoma ditching the party.
Midiwo claimed Oburu tried in vain to rig him out in 2013. He said he barely survived Oburu’s mischief.
The legislator expressedconfidence he would recapture the Gem MP seat, despite Oburu pushing for ODM nominee Elisha Odhiambo against him.
“The public will separate the wheat from the chaff on August 8,” Midiwo said.
He was reacting to a statement on Tuesday by Oburu, who said together with some ODM stalwarts, they rigged the nominations of 2013 in his favour. They allegedly rigged winner Elisha Odhiambo, who has been Midiwo’s nemesis.
Oburu rubbished Midiwo’s comments and said he is engaging in cheap politics to support independents and other candidates viewed as a threat to ODM.
“Midiwo should forget about recapturing his seat since he has fallen out with ODM,” Oburu said in Nyangweso village, Gem constituency.
