Matatu owners in Mombasa want all PSVs banned from playing secular music during working hours.
Salim Mbarak,
Coast regional coordinator for the Matatu Owners Association, said only religious music should be played in the vehicles.
"The music played in matatus nowadays is disturbing. It promotes pornography and is against the law," Mbarak said on Tuesday.
"Any PSV vehicle with a DVD showing dirty music and images should be [taken off the roads] and the system dismantled."
This came amid excitement over Monday's Eid celebrations to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
The government has gazetted Monday as a public holiday.
Mbarak said for the 12th year running, the association will provide 15 matatus to ferry faithful to various grounds for prayers.
Three matatus will be stationed at Nakumatt Likoni, KFA Mwembe Tayari, Mtwapa, Bamburi Mwisho and Coast Bus stages.
The official further urged businessmen not to hike prices of food and other commodities because of the fete.
"Matatu owners do not hike fares during Eid. Other businessmen should follow suit because Kenyans are suffering economically."
