President William Ruto on Wednesday bid farewell to Marc Dillard, the outgoing Chargé d’Affaires of the US to Kenya, who has concluded his tour of duty in the country.
Dillard, who met Ruto at State House, Nairobi, was commended for his role in strengthening Kenya–US relations during his tenure.
Their meeting highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral ties and address shared priorities.
In a statement, Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s strong and mutually beneficial diplomatic relationship with the US.
"We value our strong and mutually beneficial diplomatic ties with the United States," he said.
He also expressed his government’s commitment to deepening cooperation in trade, investment, and regional stability.
"We are committed to deepening our collaboration in trade and investment, and to expand opportunities and prosperity for our people," he stated.
The meeting also focused on shared priorities, including Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), particularly the creative economy, as well as strengthening peace and security efforts and supporting the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti.
Dillard is a career diplomat.
He has been serving as the Chargé d’Affaires following the resignation of Ambassador Meg Whitman.
Whitman, who was appointed by former president Joe Biden, quit in November 2024 after two years of service.
Prior to that, Dillard served as her deputy.
With his departure, the US State Department is now expected to deploy a new ambassador to Kenya.
