Baringo MCA linked to Laikipia bandit attacks goes missing

Baringo was tense on Wednesday after Churo-Amaya MCA Thomas Minito went missing.

The MCA had been accused of inciting bandits to execute attacks in the volatile Kerio Valley.

He was linked to the banditry attacks at Kuki Gullmann's

in Laikipia on March 30.

Minito was last seen at midday on Tuesday in Kabarnet town in the company of a female friend.

Police said the woman reported at about 3pm

that three men in civilian clothes took the MCA to record a statement.

On Wednesday, Baringo police boss

Peter Ndung’u said the woman told them the men introduced themselves as police officers.

He said Minito's phone was traced to between Sesya and Koriema along Kabarnet-Marigat road, about 20 minutes after he was reported missing.

"We have intensified investigations to unearth the MCA's whereabouts."

The police boss urged members of the public with helpful information to give it to them.

"We are calling on politicians to stop magnifying the incident based on incitements and lies," he added.

Baringo county commissioner Peter Okwanyo and AP commander Robinson Ndiwa attended the briefing.

"He should have been arrested by police officers and charged in accordance with the law," he said.

The two were killed by masked gunmen at a night club in Marigat, Baringo South on February 18.

Five people died, several were injured and property was burned during the Mukutan attack.

Minito was arrested and taken to Rumuruti police station as a suspect. He was released on a Sh1.5 million bond by the Laikipia magistrate's court.
