Journalist Isaac Ongiri among losers in ODM Homa Bay primaries

Nation media group journalist Isaac Ongiri is among MP aspirants who

lost in ODM primaries conducted in Homa Bay on Monday.

Ongiri managed fewer than 500 votes, losing out to Charles Ong’ondo who garnered 11,800 votes in the

Kasipul constituency race.

Ongo’ndo was

followed closely by Okindo Majiwa who got 9,000 votes.

In Suba North, Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo was declared the winner with 8,900 votes against Jim Akali and Judy Kamaria who got 7,996

and 3,201 respectively.

Akali has protested the results and wants the ODM election board to

cancel the whole process on ground that it was shambolic.

“Some ballot boxes with papers from my strongholds were not tallied.

The process was marred with lots of irregularities hence should be

nullified to pave way for credible process,” Akali said.

Akali accused the constituency returning officer Philip Okong’o of

taking sides in the nominations.

“I will still be in the ballot even if ODM fails to nullify nomination

results for Suba North because it was against the people’s will,” he

said.

In Karachuonyo, some aspirants protested the results after brother to

ODM election board secretary Bob Arunga was announced the

winner.

David Arunga, a former ambassador to Egypt was accused of being

favoured by his brother.

Karachuonyo constituency returning officer Jacob Onyango announced

David Arunga the winner after he garnered 6881 votes, followed by

Elijah Okodoh had 6418 votes and Tom Dola 3,811 votes.

Former Standard Newspaper bureau chief Anderson Ojwang' came eighth with 816 votes.

The constituency attracted 18 hopefuls who ran on ODM party.

Ojwang’ contested the results saying it was openly rigged.

“Why would Bob Arunga use his position as the ODM election secretary

to favour his brother? Bob went against what he promised us that he

would not meddle in the nominations,” Ojwang’ said.

In Ndhiwa, returning officer Peter Otieno declared former Chief

Officer for health in Homa Bay county Martin Owino as the winner after

he garnered 14,005 votes followed by incumbent Augustino Neto who got

13,000 votes.

In Homa Bay Town, the constituency returning officer Everline Edesa

announced incumbent Peter Kaluma as the with winner with 15,754

votes followed by businessman Samuel Asiyo with 733.

In Suba South constituency, ODM national chairman John Mbadi triumphed

over Caroli Omondi, the former Chief of Staff in the office of Prime

Minister Raila Odinga.

Mbadi was announced to have won after he got 12365 votes while Caroli

garnered 11,597 votes.

Caroli has since petitioned the party National Elections Board over

the results.

In Rangwe constituency, a lecturer at Egerton University Lilian Gogo

floored her arch rival and incumbent George Oner after she collected

20584 votes while Oner got 2,180 votes.

The returning officer Ila Panaito said Gogo won fairly.

In Kabondo Kasipul constituency, incumbent MP Sylance Osele was

declared the winner by returning officer Jothan Okidi.

Osele defeated his closest challenger Eve Obara by garnering 7457 votes.

Obara got 3389 votes while Prof Richard Muga 3024 votes while Obonyo

Mireri got 1936 votes.
