A woman has on Wednesday asked a Mombasa court to withdraw assault charges against her husband.

Cecelina Njeru said she has forgiven Franco Msomba after he pleaded guilty to battering her on February 20 at Kibarani area.

Njeru, who still bears scars on her left arm and face, said she worried her husband could die behind bars.

"My husband is epileptic," she told the court, adding that her children needed their father.

State prosecutor Ayekhla Shakwila told Njeru that her decision to drop charges against the accused barred her from presenting any future assault allegations against him in court.

"Yes, I will not bring the matter to court against," Njeru said.

Senior resident magistrate Lillian Tsuma withdrew the matter.

The incident comes in the wake of the controversial Jackline Mwende case, whose hands were allegedly chopped off by her husband Stephen Ngila, over a childless marriage.

Mwende is back again in the headlines talking about the affair she had that led to the brutal attack by her hubby.

She told the Daily Nation newspaper she made an agreement with the baby daddy to help her conceive. At the time, the hubby, Stephen Ngila had left the matrimonial home for three months.

The affair was a one off deal to just get a baby.
