14-year-old boy in Ndabibi, Naivasha on Monday, hours after returning from school.

Kaniu, said the primary school pupil had been living with his ageing grandmother since his mother left him.

“We know he has been in stress for a period of time and has been complaining of poverty. His mother has never returned since she left this village,” he said

Naivasha assistant county commissioner John Opondo said the body had been taken to the county referral hospital mortuary.

“Police have opened investigations into the matter although initial investigations point to a boy who was depressed after he was dumped by his mother,” he said.

Meanwhile, a man serving a life sentence was

found dead in his cell at the Naivasha Maximum security prison on Tuesday morning.

While the cause of death was not immediately clear, close friends said he had been ailing for some time.

“The inmate in his late 40s was found lying dead in his cell by warders and he was confirmed dead on arrival at the prison hospital,” a source at the prison said.

He said the deceased had refused to take drugs that he was given by medics.

“He was well at the count

last night

but we woke up to see his body lying in his cell," a warder said.

Police are investigating the incident.
