The Agriculture Development Cooperation has given 100 acres to enable the Trans Nzoia government to put up a university. Governor Patrick Khaemba said he has been in talks with the parastatal for a long time for land to build the county’s first university.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Kuppet want Kitale National Polytechnic elevated to a university. However, the county government has opposed the idea. The ADC has 40,000 acres in Trans Nzoia.

“Now that we have the land, we will ensure we hasten the process of setting up our own university within the shortest time possible,” Khaemba said in Kitale town on Wednesday.

“The move will enable Kitale polytechnic to continue offering tertiary education, especially for those who study diploma and certificate courses.” Khaemba urged the Kenya Prisons and Kenya Forest Service to follow suit and give land to the county government in exchange for land elsewhere.

Khaemba said he has asked the national government to donate land to expand Kitale town and give some to investors who signed a Sh24 billion deal with the county.
