National Police Service Commission chairman Johnstone Kavuludi has said his team is investigating complaints raised by participants in the recently-concluded recruitment.
The NPSC said it received complaints of misconduct and it is necessary to review and cancel results where there was evident irregularity. Kavuludi said results of any recruiting centre, where NPSC will establish there were irregularities, will be cancelled and the exercise repeated.
He said he received complaints of alleged irregularities, especially at the NYS headquarters, which was listed as one of the two recruitment centres in Nairobi, including the CID Training School. “Looking at the complaints we have received, there is need for review. NPSC is still waiting for the results from the IG. The NYS is one of those centres to be focused on,” Kavuludi said.
He said results of the just-concluded police recruitment will be made public soon.
The NPSC yesterday said results are being examined by a secretariat set up at the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.
The NPSC last year delegated powers to recruit police officers to the IG. Consequently, successful recruits were issued with notifications of intention to recruit them into the police service, until they are given appointment letters.
Kavuludi said nobody is holding a letter of appointment but those who qualified have been notified. Kavuludi said once the secretariat at the IG’s office concludes examining the results, the recruits will be asked to report for training.
Lobby groups, including the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, promised to monitor irregularities in this year’s recruitment.
The groups said the list of qualified candidates should be announced at the recruiting centre to avoid manipulation of the original list.
