Radio Africa Group's Star newspaper, rebranded for a sharper focus on politics, will be officially launched at Nairobi's Serena Hotel on Thursday.
Star Editor-in-Chief Charles Kerich said Kenya is a political society that looks to the paper for insights, predictive stories and analyses.
“People have commended us on many occasions saying: 'Hey, we have just seen a story in your competition's papers that we read in The Star two days ago'."
"We like that reputation that we are building, that we are always ahead and that most of our predictions, if not all, actually turn out to have been correct in the first place."
In an interview at The Star's head office in Westlands on Wednesday, Kerich noted that the newspaper will be "predominantly political ".
“We have decided that this is the direction we are taking," Kerich said.
"We
hope readers and loyal partners
will find that it is in The Star that you will get authoritative information that will help shape policy and inform plans for the future based on
circumstances."
Depth Editor Francis Openda said the paper will also give in-depth news on counties and Kenya's major sectors including education and health.
"We still have the six sports pages, both local and international. We still have in-depth coverage of what goes on in various ministries and sectors," he said.
"The Star still is one of the papers that gives you comprehensive coverage of news from the counties."
