President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Friday launch street lighting program in Mombasa at Makadara grounds.
Statehouse spokesperson Manoah Esipisu confirmed that president Uhuru Kenyatta has already toured most parts of the installed street lights in Mombasa by foot and he will only witness the system and launch it.
"He had already toured several lit-streets in Mombasa night by foot and Friday activity is just official opening, "he said.
The national government has spent Sh380 million in the ongoing installation of streets light by Kenya Power Company in three coastal counties of Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi.
It has spent Sh224, 462,905 on installation of the streets lights in Mombasa, Kilifi Sh94, 020,463 and Kwale County Sh61, 576,862, according to Kenya Power Company managing director Ben Chumo.
Chumo said the installation of the street light in all major roads in Mombasa has fully been completed and the town is very bright at night.
“This project has fully been funded by the national government, but county governments will be paying the monthly electricity bills,” said Chumo.
Several state and county officials will be attending the event including Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir,Nairobi senator Mike Sonko ,Kilifi North legislator Gideon Mung’aro among other leaders.
