Environmentalists will today join the rest of the world in marking the International Coastal Cleanup.
They will clean the coastline from Kiunga in Lamu to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
In Kilifi, the cleanup is organised by the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Ocean Conservancy, which are mandated to ensure all public beaches along the Indian Ocean are clean.
They have engaged hundreds of volunteers to help pick up debris and plastic waste that are a threat to marine life, particularly the sea turtle.
Malindi Marine Park senior warden Willis Osore yesterday urged Kilifi residents to clean the beaches.
