WATER ISSUES: Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua washes hands at the home of Kioko Kituku at Katine village in Matungulu, Machakos County, on August 9.

Machakos town MP Victor Munyaka has said governor Alfred Mutua has taken over ukambani leadership due to his strong development record.

"Ukambani politics has changed. The time for leaders supplying our people with relief food is past time," Munyaka said.

He said with Mutua, accessing water both for consumption and irrigation has become a reality in ukambani.

Munyaka said it was not about being a tribal kingpin but providing a dignified livelihood for the people who have suffered for decades as a result of poor leadership.

He added that Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama had outlived their political careers and should leave it to the new generation.

The youthful MP was speaking at his Mtua home in Machakos town on Friday night where he hosted a party.

"Machakos county residents should support Mutua as we have seen what his Maendeleo chap chap ideology has done in the past two years," Munyaka said.

The party was attended by URP secretary general Fred Muteti and The Independent Party (TIP) leader Kalembe Ndile.

Kalembe challenged Kalonzo to outline what he did to people in the more than three decades he has been in the politics.

Tip leader said wiper had lost its foothold in ukambani and its leaders has nothing to offer.

Hundreds of Machakos residents attended the party including boda boda operators. Residents praised Mutua's leadership for creating an environment enabling their business to thrive.

"Since Mutua came into power Machakos town has been receiving huge number of visitors especially on weekends. This has seen our business grow," a bodaboda operator said.
