The Africa International Film Festival is rallying all filmmakers across Africa and the diaspora to send in their movie entries for this year’s edition.
However, only films produced after January 1, 2014, and are yet to be officially screened to an African or global audience, will be eligible. They will compete in the five categories in this upcoming fifth edition to be held in Nigeria between November 8-15 this year. Entry submissions will close on July 24.
“This year again, we are expecting to receive fantastic feature films, documentaries, animation, short films and student short films, which is a category geared towards appreciating the efforts of upcoming and talented student filmmakers,” said Afriff artistic director, Keith Shiri.
He said Afriff would continuously be at the forefront of the drive for excellence, by giving inclusive expression to African cinema. The fest is among the select film festivals worldwide that award monetary prizes for the best films in their competitive categories with the winning feature film entry receiving $6,000 (Sh570,000).
The winning documentary gets $5,000 (Sh475,000); short film and animation $3,000(Sh285,000) each as student short get $2,000 (Sh190,000).
