Last year’s Metropolitan region finalists, New Jogoo Road girls crushed Nile Road 25-9 during the Makadara District Term One ‘A’ games staged at Huruma Girls Secondary School grounds over the weekend.
Despite the result, both New Jogoo Road and Nile Road still qualified for the Nairobi County Secondary Schools Sports Association games scheduled for this weekend.
The one-sided match saw New Jogoo Road go to the break with a 14-4 lead. The winners suffered a temporal setback after key player Mercy Cherono was send off the field and still went on to add 11 more goals to wrap the match 25-5.
Ann Wambui was Jogoo Road’s top scorer with seven goals. Despite losing Nile Road keeper Magaret Wambui gave as much as she received and left the field with her head high.
En-route the final, New Jogoo Road beat Huruma 29-4 while Nile Road clobbered Buruburu 13-5. “We have trained well and my target is to reach the nationals if not the East Africa Games,” said New Jogoo Road coach Gabriel Kizito.
Buruburu Girls won the third position play-off after beating Huruma 19-2 as Maisy Ogutu top-scored for the winners with five goals. At the same venue, Makongeni beat Aquinas 18-15 after leading 9-7 at the breather.
Makongeni’s Kennedy Simiyu and Chemaswet Ngeiwa scored four goals each while Aquinas’ Paul Ngige and Henry Omondi had six and five goals respectively.
Makongeni and New Jogoo road have been training with military sides during school holidays to sharpen up their skills.
In netball, Makongeni beat Buruburu 25-11. Both teams qualified for the county games by virtue of the fact that they were the only participants.
