Heavy work load: Machakos law Courts which serves Machakos, kathiani, Mwala and parts of Yatta.

Machakos resident judge Lilian Mutende says there is need for a court in Wamunyu market.

Some 591 criminal cases filed in the Machakos law courts last year were from Masii, Mwala, Kibauni, Yathui and Katangi divisions, according to a judiciary report.

Mutende said the report was meant to establish whether there is need for a court in Wamunyu to serve these regions.

Addressing a Court Users Association Forum in Machakos town on Monday, Mutende said part of the key result areas of the Judiciary Transformation Framework is to ensure accessibility to justice.

She said the volume of cases filed in the Machakos law courts warrants the establishment of a court in the Wamunyu area.

Wamunyu is 60km from Machakos town.

Mutende said a mobile court would ease the pressure in the meantime as the JSC puts up a permanent one.
