Italian investor killed in Malindi car crash

A prominent Italian investor and consular for Malindi was killed in an accident on the Malindi-Mombasa highway yesterday. Marco Vancini, 60, owner of Coral Key Resort, was driving towards Kilifi at 10am when the accident occurred.His vehicle collided head-on with a canter. Witnesses said Vancini, who was speeding, hit the canter on the wrong side.

A prominent Italian investor and consular for Malindi was killed in an accident on the Malindi-Mombasa highway yesterday.

Marco Vancini, 60, owner of Coral Key Resort, was driving towards Kilifi at 10am when the accident occurred.

His vehicle collided head-on with a canter.

Witnesses said Vancini, who was speeding, hit the canter on the wrong side.

Police said the driver of the canter tried to avoid his car but it was too late.

Security personnel had a hard time controlling a crowd and traffic after the accident.

Malindi subcounty police boss George Ali and Traffic base commander Bernard Imbaya visited the scene.

Ali warned motorists against driving carelessly on the road.

He said the accident occurred at a time when officers are arresting drivers for speeding.

“We will continue with the speed checks on the road until all motorists follow the law," Ali said.

Vancini's body was taken to Star Hospital mortuary and the vehicles towed to Malindi police station.
