THE slain African Inland Church preacher Rev George Gatundu was burried on Tuesday in Lari constituency, Kiambu county.
Gatundu, 83, was allegedly murdered last week by youths in Kedong’, Maai Mahiu.
Family members and friends described him as a “good teacher”.
Present were Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, MPs Mburu Kahangara (Lari), Jude Njomo (Kiambu) and Nakuru women’s representative Mary Mbugua and MCA’s Mburu Gitiha (Nyanduma) and Stephen Ng’ethe (Maai Mahiu).
They said Gatundu was a counsellor who advised residents to live morally.
The leaders urged residents to emulate Gatungu.
“Rev Gatundu was a humble, intelligent and a smart preacher who was my friend. He loved people, and he counselled everybody without fear. We have lost a brave soldier, but we leave everything to God who is our creator,” Kabogo said.
Kahangara urged the residents to emulate him through good deeds, including generousity.
“He was a man who never sent anyone back. He was welcoming and loved correcting us when we went wrong,” he said.
Kahangara said Rev Gatundu was a fine spiritual teacher, who spoke without fear.
AIC clerics led by Bishop John Kivuva led the service.
Rev Gatundu had accompanied other members of a Lari land-buying company to visit a 22,000 acres in Kedong’ when the youths attacked them and killed him.
Deputy county commissioner Benard Kinyua said reconciliation talks are ongoing to ensure peaceful coexistence among residents.
