MP opposes Gatundu dam site

Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has denied allegations by four Kiambu MCAs that he supports the construction of a dam in Gathite location.He said he will move to court to stop the construction of the Sh6 billion dam.Speaking at Githobono Coffee Factory on Sunday, Njenga said the government will construct another dam at Buchana, five kilometres from the proposed dam at Githombokoni.

Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has denied allegations by four Kiambu MCAs that he supports the construction of a dam in Gathite location.

He said he will move to court to stop the construction of the Sh6 billion dam.

Speaking at Githobono Coffee Factory on Sunday, Njenga said the government will construct another dam at Buchana, five kilometres from the proposed dam at Githombokoni.

“Although we do not want to look as if we are opposing the government’s development projects, we are not ready for the dam as it will displace many people. It should be moved to a site near Kieni Forest,” he said.

Residents have said they were not consulted about the project.
