Kamiti maximum prison industries department has for the second time been awarded a furniture contract by government. The prison was last year commissioned to make seats for the new-look parliament.

It charged the government Sh200,000 per seat which was half the price quoted by other suppliers then. Speaking to the press yes- terday, officer in charge of the prisons industries David Langat said the prison is now making tables, seats and uniforms for sergeants- at-arms for the Senate in five counties.

“Once we are done, we will hand over the items to the Transition Authority,” he said. Though Langat did not disclose the cost of the furniture, he said they are cheaper than competitors and will make high quality products.
