A section of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) workers staged a protest Wednesday outside Afya House in Nairobi over the alleged delay by the government in renewing their contracts, which they claim expired in May and June this year.
The healthcare workers, drawn from various counties, gathered outside the Ministry of Health headquarters, chanting slogans and waving placards as they demanded immediate action on the renewal of their contracts.

The protesters said the delay has created anxiety over their livelihoods and affected morale among health workers who have been serving in public health facilities under the UHC programme.
They argued that many of them have continued reporting to work even after their contracts lapsed, hoping the government would honour its commitment to renew them.
The workers also warned that prolonged delays could disrupt the delivery of healthcare services, especially in public hospitals and health centres that rely heavily on UHC staff.

They called on the Ministry of Health and relevant government agencies to expedite the renewal process and provide clear communication on their employment status.
The demonstration remained peaceful as the workers urged the government to address their grievances and safeguard both their jobs and the continuity of essential healthcare services across the country.
