Muslims gathered at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County on Wednesday morning for Eid al-Adha prayers.
Men, women and children arrived early at the grounds for congregational prayers marking one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
Among leaders present were East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Suleiman Shahbal, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, former Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Ali and UDA politician Said Twaha.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God before a ram was provided as a substitute.
The celebration is marked through prayers, charity and sharing meals with family, neighbours and the needy.
Similar prayers were held in mosques and open grounds across the country as Muslims joined others worldwide in marking the occasion.
