President William Ruto on Saturday expressed satisfaction with the progress of the 220-unit Boma Yangu Vihiga Estate in Vihiga County, noting that construction works are now 96 percent complete.
During the inspection, the Head of State said the project reflects the government’s broader ambition to provide affordable housing while creating employment opportunities.
“Impressed by the progress of the 220-unit Boma Yangu Vihiga Estate, Vihiga County, which now stands at 96 percent complete. Our ambition is to deliver 200,000 affordable homes every year, not just as shelter but as engines of jobs,” Ruto said.
He added that nearly 170,000 housing units are currently under construction across the country, generating 320,000 jobs. The number of jobs is expected to rise to 650,000 as the programme expands.
The Boma Yangu initiative forms part of the government’s strategy to increase access to affordable housing while boosting economic activity through construction-related employment.
He stated that the government's ambition is to deliver 200,000 affordable homes every year, not just as shelter but as engines of jobs.
