Kenya and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations that span key sectors including trade, transport, tourism, and agriculture.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, on Tuesday hosted Qatar’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Mohammed Mutair Al-Shamlani Al-Anzi, at Parliament Buildings for talks aimed at reinforcing the diplomatic ties established between the two countries in 2003.

“Our talks centred on how the two nations can reinforce the diplomatic ties established in 2003 on sectors including Trade, Transport, Tourism and Agriculture,” Speaker Wetang’ula said after the meeting.

He acknowledged Qatar’s contribution to Kenya’s labour force, noting that thousands of Kenyans live and work in the Gulf nation.“I hail them as informal ambassadors of our country,” he said, in reference to Kenyans working in Qatar.

The two leaders also explored ways to enhance parliamentary diplomacy between the two nations.

Wetang’ula said there were discussions on the possibility of establishing friendship groups involving Members of Parliament from both countries to strengthen engagement and collaboration.

The meeting highlights the continued efforts by Kenya and Qatar to boost cooperation and expand diplomatic and development opportunities for their citizens.
