Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday toured parts of Nairobi affected by Wednesday's protests.

He expressed sympathy for small-scale traders who lost property in the chaos.

Murkomen condemned the violence, saying the demonstrations, meant to be peaceful, were hijacked by criminal gangs, resulting in destruction and suffering for innocent Kenyans.

''What started as a constitutional right turned into lawlessness,” he said.

He was accompanied by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy IG Gilbert Masengeli, and other senior security officials.

''As a government, our hearts go out to the traders, workers, and residents whose livelihoods and services were disrupted. We are working to restore normalcy, enhance security, and support recovery efforts,'' he said assuring the affected traders.
