Information, Communication and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo on Tuesday led a team of government officers and the local community in a national tree planting exercise.
The exercise took place at Karimarich Forest in Nandi County, CS Owalo said in a statement on X.
"As part of the Government’s 15 Billion Trees initiative, I led a team of government officers and the local community in a National Tree Planting Exercise this morning at Karimarich Forest in Nandi County," CS Owalo said.
This happened after the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry released a list of the Cabinet members leading in the tree planting exercise.
The list was released days after President William Ruto announced that the tree-planting exercise would continue for the next six months.
Ruto said every ministry will have a day in which staff of various departments and agencies will plant trees in the specific areas they have been assigned.
He added that this will be followed by all the other ministries until the government achieves the target of 15 billion trees by 2032.
The President said the government was keen on increasing the country's forest cover from 12 per cent to 30 per cent.
