More than 15,000 lawyers across the country on Thursday are participating in elections to elect a new president of the Law Society of Kenya and a Judicial Service Commission (JSC) representative. 

The race for the presidency is between five candidates: Peter Wanyama, Carolyne Kamende, Faith Odhiambo, Harriet Mboche and Kipkoech Bernhard Ngetich

Odhiambo and Kamende are vying to become the second female president of the LSK.

The LSK presidency, with a non-renewable two-year term, holds a critical role in steering the society's direction.

Also to be elected is the society’s vice president and LSK male representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The exercise which started early morning and is set to end at 5 pm is being conducted in all the law courts across the country.

The upcoming president, once elected, will be the 51st individual to assume the role since the society’s inception.
