Workers constructing a house for World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum were Thursday evening doing their final touches, six days after they began the exercise.

It was earlier said that the house would be handed over to the family on Thursday but that has been pushed to Friday, the day he will be laid to rest.

The government is constructing a three-bedroom house that will be handed over to the family.

President William Ruto ordered the construction of the house at Kiptum's four-acre farm located at Naiberi in Uasin Gishu some 20 kilometres from Eldoret town.

"We had a lot of plans with him. We were set to start a business and move to a new house...I asked him about the house we were about to build, and he said he was waiting for the county to approve the building plan and everything else would be done in six months," Asaneth Rotich, Kiptum's wife, recounted

The body was to be escorted by a procession for about 80 km through Eldoret town to Iten grounds then to ACK-Chepkorio for a prayer service.

The President will join the residents and international guests expected to attend the funeral service at Chepkerio grounds in Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday.

After that, the body will be transported for another 15 kilometres to his new home at Naiberi, Uasin Gishu county, where the final burial rights will be done.
