President William Ruto on Monday held talks with CIA Director William Burns at State House, Nairobi.
The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (DCIA) serves as the head of the CIA and reports to the Director of National Intelligence.
Present during the meeting was US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.
Established in 1947, the CIA assists the DCIA in collecting intelligence through human sources and by other appropriate means.
This is in the realization that the CIA/DCIA has no police, subpoena or law enforcement powers or internal security functions.
The CIA is also mandated with correlating and evaluating intelligence related to national security and providing appropriate dissemination of such intelligence.
It also provides overall direction for and coordination of the collection of national intelligence outside the United States through human sources by elements of the Intelligence Community authorised to undertake such collection.
The CIA also performs such other functions and duties related to intelligence affecting national security as the US President or the Director of National Intelligence may direct.
