In courts today

Wazir Benson Chacha, accused in 2018 of extorting MPs using the name of Jubilee nominated MP Sabina Chege, will return to court for directions.

The mention, set for Friday, will take place at the Milimani Magistrates Court.

Chacha was charged almost six years ago before then Chief Magistrate Roseline Oganyo with six counts.

Among the counts was conspiring to register a Safaricom mobile number in Chege's name.

He is also facing the charge of impersonation and obtaining money by pretense.

Chacha allegedly used the number to contact the late MP Jakoyo Midiwo on March 4, 2018.

Jakoyo gave him Sh20,000.

On March 8 of the same year, at a Restaurant, the suspect attempted to obtain Sh100,000 from the former Gem legislator.

He was exposed after MPs, including Chege, sought police intervention after it emerged the accused had conned several lawmakers.

He was released on a Sh1 million bail.

The case was later adjourned after Chacha got a new lawyer, George Wajackoyah who said he needed time to familiarise himself with the file.

Official handover by Chief Register Anne Amadi

The Judiciary will today hold an event at Milimani Law Courts for the official handover by Chief Registrar Anne Amadi.

The event will be presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Amadi has served as the Chief Registrar for the last decade since January 2014.

The judiciary described her tenure as one of "distinguished service".

Amadi also served as the Secretary of the Council on the Administration of Justice.
