Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday attended a funeral service of Samuel Muthungu Kamuhia, a village elder in Nyeri.
Gachagua described him as an active champion of local conflict resolution and a steadfast pillar of peace and unity in the community.
"The loss of a loved one shakes the family, community and society. In that lowest moment, the warmth of friends and relatives brings solace and comfort," he said.
"Today, I condoled with the family of Samuel Muthungu Kamuhia, at Hiriga, Nyeri County. Mr Kamuhia was a hardworking family man, who also served as a senior village elder until his death."
Gachagua said that Kamuhia provided wise counsel to the youth and all those who looked up to him while instilling fundamental societal values for which he will be remembered.
"After a selfless service to the community, he has rested well. May the Lord grant the family strength to bear the loss. Fare Thee Well Elder Kamuhia."
