Business came to a standstill for the better part of Tuesday morning in South B estate as residents held demonstrations, protesting against a private developer who allegedly took over land meant for a market.

The residents were joined by their MCA Waithera Chege and former Starehe MP Charles Njagua who called on both the county and national governments to protect the land meant for the construction of the only market in the ward.

Expressing their frustrations, the residents lamented that justice was being delayed over the ownership of the contested land, registration number LR.NO 209/12621.

Last month, the developer, believed to be a sitting MP from Kiambu, caused an uproar after sending goons to demolish structures that were erected on the contested land.

What raised eyebrows, was that the demolition happened at night and erected an iron sheet fence around the area.

Angry residents responded by pulling down the iron sheet fence erected around the land.

Already, a petition is before the County Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi, which had paved the way for an official investigation surrounding the ownership of LR NO. 209/12612.

The petition is currently before the county assembly Planning and Housing Committee.
