President William Ruto has on Saturday planted trees at Kaptagat Forest in Elgeyo Marakwet during the 7th Edition of the Kaptagat annual tree planting.
He said Kaptagat Forest Ecosystem is a critical catchment area supporting thousands of livelihoods in different counties such as Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans-Nzoia and Uasin Gishu.
"It not only supplies water for irrigation and domestic use but also offers the right training environment for our thriving sportsmen and women," Ruto said.
He said the government will work with partners to rehabilitate and restore the ecosystem.
He added that tree planting is part of the Kenya Kwanza agenda of planting 15 billion trees in the next 10 years, to respond to climate change.
In addition, Ruto also launched the Yokot Kapteren Integrated Dam.
The President also opened a tuition block at St. Alphonsus Mutei Girls' High School.
