President William Ruto on Monday presided over the Kenya Prisons Cadets pass-out parade at the Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
During the event, Ruto lauded the prison's authority for aligning its policies, procedures, and standards with the constitution and the government’s development agenda.
"The embracing of correctional best practices from punishment and retribution to rehabilitation will empower prisoners besides preparing them for gainful participation in the country," Ruto said.
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said the future lies in a healthy mix of recruits who joined the disciplined forces regularly.
"I say so your excellency because you have made it clear that under your administration, you look forward to professionalizing all the disciplined forces and ensuring that we modernise our discipline forces to be able to deal with the unique and complex challenges that our country faces today and in the future," Kindiki said.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said the discipline forces have been a beacon of hope that the country is stable, shall remain stable and will observe the rule of law.
"This has also gone beyond our borders because a lot of these men and women are always called upon to serve beyond our borders in peacekeeping efforts, in the training of other nation peoples and that is a clear indication that Kenya has made tremendous strides in ensuring that we cultivate the right kind of public service," Mudavadi said.
This is the first pass-out parade of Prisons Cadets that Ruto is presiding over since he was elected president.
The head of state was accompanied by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Secretary of interior Kithure Kindiki, among other senior officials in the Prisons Service.
