The late Kenya Volleyball president Waithaka Kioni will be laid to rest today in Kiamwangi, Kiambu County.

Kioni passed on on April 9 after a short illness.

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), where he served as the second vice chairman, confirmed the sad news on the same day.

"We sadly announce the unfortunate and sudden passing on of our second vice-president and president of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), the Late,  Waithaka Kioni early this morning in Nairobi," said Nock President Paul Tergat in a statement. 

The Africa Volleyball Federation president Bouchra Hajij has described the late Kioni as a unifying force that guided the CAVB executive in the best manner.

Upon his death, Kioni served as the CAVB treasurer.

"The late was a unifying force in the executive and many benefited from his vast experience, wisdom and intellect," Bouchra said.
