The National Celebrations Committee chaired by Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has said the Madaraka Day celebrations will no longer be held at Njukiri Grounds.
Omollo said instead the celebrations will be held at Moi Stadium in Embu county.
He said the change in venue is for reasons related to time and cost.
"The government has settled on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as this year’s theme of Madaraka Day Celebrations to be held at the Moi Stadium in Embu County," he said.
Omollo said this is in a bid to improve and spur economic growth.
The PS said currently construction works are gathering pace at the Moi Stadium which has the capacity to host 20,000 people.
He said the majority of the infrastructure will be ready within the next 45 days.
Omollo said the project is approximately set to cost Sh300 million.
