[PHOTOS] CJ Koome meets officials from UN Office on Drugs, Crime

Said PLEAD has enabled the strengthening of the workings of the Justice sector.

Chief Justice Martha Koome on Wednesday held a consultative meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Headquarters, and Regional Section for Africa and Middle East.  

Koome said the notable impact of the Judiciary’s strategic partnership with UNODC is the Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery in Kenya (PLEAD) .

Koome said PLEAD has enabled the strengthening of the workings of National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) and Justice sector.

"I believe UNODC should continue partnering with us to augment and deepen the reach of this programme due to its transformative potential," Koome said. 

The Chief Justice said the support from the PLEAD I programme enabled actors within the justice sector to continue delivering services despite the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said the overall objective and expected impact of PLEAD II is to enhance access to justice through increased efficiency and accountability in the justice system and harness technology as an enabler of justice.
