History was made on Thursday as Kenya launched its direct flights from Mombasa to Dubai.
The first Kenya Airways flight took off after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua presided over the launch at Moi International Airport.
'It is a great moment for Kenya as the inaugural flight for our National Carrier, @KenyaAirways, to Dubai from Mombasa's MIA takes to the skies," he said.
The DP noted that the event was historic as it is a dynamic way to sustain millions of jobs from the tourism sector.
"By connecting the Kenyan Coast to the Middle East directly, the travel time is effectively reduced, making Kenya the most attractive destination for the Middle East tourists," Gachagua added.
Th DP was accompanied by CS for Transport Kipchumba Murkomen, his counterpart from Touris Penina Malonza, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir , Gideon Munagro - Kilifi, Andrew Mwadime- Taita Taveta among other leaders.
It will cost up to Sh37,925 to fly from Mombasa to Dubai after the launch of KQ direct flights.
Kenya Airways said the national carrier will operate the route four times weekly, that will be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
KQ urged travellers to book their tickets early since the offer of Sh37,925 will only be valid for 5 days after the launch.
