Information, Communication and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo has launched free Wi-Fi in Nairobi's City Market.
The hotspot is expected to ease business transaction in the area.
The launch was in line with President William Ruto’s promise and effort to transform Kenya into a globally competitive digital economy.
"It is our vision to create a reliable and secure high speed digital infrastructure for the public, as the avenue envisaged for Kenya’s digital transformation," Owalo said.
The free WiFi initiative is to be launched country wide with a target of putting up 25 000 hotspots.
Additionally, 100 000 fibre optics to be constructed as the country moves towards a digitized economy.
Also present were Nairobi DG, James Muchiri, Senator Edwin Sifuna and MPs, John Kiarie (National Assembly ICT Committee Chair), Amos Mwago (Starehe) and other leaders.
