Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday flagged off the second batch of 88 metric tonnes of NPK subsidised fertiliser.

He said the consignment will help smallholder tea growers across the country.

"We gave a commitment to Kenyans that within one year, farmers will earn from their sweat and get compensated for their work," he said.

The second consignment contained 62 trucks each carrying at least 100 bags of fertiliser.

The trucks set off from the Syokimau Nairobi Freight Terminus for delivery of the cargo to various factories.

On September 22, Gachagua flagged off the first consignment of the Sh3.55 billion of subsidised fertiliser.

The DP said the government will supply 1.4 million bags of fertilisers to farmers in the country.

This comes after President William Ruto directed that fertiliser be sold at Sh3,500 per 50Kg bag down from Sh6,500.
