[PHOTOS] Kenyans stranded at bus stations as fares hike

Passengers are seen stranded at bus stations awaiting means of travel to various destinations.

Buses and matatus are scarce as a big number of people are travelling for various reasons.

One of the reasons cited for scarcity of vehicles is the impromptu closure of schools.

Others are travelling to vote in their registered areas in upcountry, which has become a norm during electioneering period.

Many went to the bus station as early as 6 am and are yet to be assured of travel.

Some have booked tickets while others are yet to.

Buses operating the Nairobi routes have converted and are now ferrying passengers to other parts of the country.

Fares have also gone higher with distances that cost Sh1,000 going for between Sh1,500 and Sh2,000.
