UDA presidential candidate William Ruto was cleared to contest in the August polls by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Saturday.
IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati made the announcement at the Bomas of Kenya.
Ruto was accompanied by his running mate Rigathi Gachagua and other officials when submitting their documents to the commission.
"The application of William Ruto and running mate to participate in the August presidential election is approved. I will now present you with a certificate of registration," Chebukati said amid cheers from his supporters and Kenya Kwanza leaders who accompanied him to Bomas.
Ruto also appointed Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki to be his chief agent ahead of the August 9 polls.
The DP made the announcement on Saturday after receiving his nomination certificate from IEBC at Bomas of Kenya.
Kindiki will be assisted by Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and UDA SG Veronica Maina in his new role, which will entail ensuring seamless communication between his team and the IEBC.
